American walnut American walnut is native to eastern North America and grows 30 to 45 m tall.
American walnut has a medium specific density. The sapwood is a yellowish-white and the heartwood is light to dark brown. To even out the sapwood and heartwood colour, walnut wood is steamed. Over time, the wood develops a rich patina. It generally has a straight grain, sometimes displaying a wavy pattern that produces attractive and decorative figures.
American walnut is easy to work but difficult to dry and has to be dried very carefully, as it can easily get damaged. Once dried, the wood is very stable and easy to stain or varnish.
Uses: furniture, doors, decking, etc. It is very popular in combination with light wood.
